On The Menu This Week

Kitchen

Remember last week when I was nervous about the chicken fried steaks?  Good news! They turned out awesome.  I made a simple gravy from butter, flour, milk and chicken broth to put on top and it really made the dish.

Here’s what’s on our menu for this week:

  • Honey Balsamic salmon with quinoa and green beans
  • Chicken Marsala with garlic mashed potatoes
  • Tacos with refried beans
  • Spaghetti and meatballs with salad
  • Shrimp Fried Rice
  • Filet Mignons with broccoli and baked potatoes

Don’t think we’re fancy and turn up our nose at regular old sirloin steak!  The filet mignons came in the Omaha Steak sampler I got with my Groupon.

I Love Ann Taylor Loft

Over the past few years as I’ve been working a full time corporate job, I’ve come to love Ann Taylor Loft.  They have a nice variety of work and casual clothes and a lot of what I call in between clothes.  Things that you could wear in both situations depending on the top/bottom/accessories paired with it.

I rarely buy anything full price here, because they always seem to be having sales.  This weekend I took advantage of the 40% off everything and added a few new pieces to my wardrobe.

What I purchased:

Lace print pleat neck sleeveless dress

Mini chip print tie neck blouse

Jewel embellished sweatshirt

Striped drawstring neck tunic

I also picked up a cream tank and a basic 3/4 sleeve black cardigan to replace one I have that isn’t very black anymore.

LOFT ShoppingObviously the tunic is a casual only piece, but I just had to get it.  For days when I work from home it will be perfect.

The tie neck blouse is a great example of an in between piece.  With a pair of dark jeans and black flats, a great outfit to grab a glass of wine with the girls on Friday night.  For work I could wear it with a skirt or dress pants.

The jewel embellished top is an interesting fabric, to me it feels like a mix between sweatshirt and sweater.  I think I could still wear it to work, but I’d go for a pencil skirt and heels to make sure it felt dressed up enough.

The dress I was thinking could be dressed up enough for a wedding or paired with a cardigan or blazer for work.

10K Training Plan: Week 12

Custis Trail

On the schedule:

Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday
15-Sep Yoga 3 mile run 40 min CT 2 mile run 50 min CT Rest 4.5 mile run

What actually happened:

Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday
15-Sep Walk Rest Rest 2.75 mile run Rest Rest 4.5 mile run

I missed that Monday run again.  I NEED to push myself to get everything in these next few weeks because the race is almost here!

I did think while out on that 4.5 miler that in the near future a 10K race is as far as I need to go.  When I first started getting into running, I had ambitious days where I’ve looked at half marathon training plans or looked for races.  I’d still like to do one, but I don’t think it will be anytime soon.  Maybe 2015 will be the year!

On The Menu This Week

There is something so satisfying to me to look at the grocery store ads and plan out a week’s worth of meals!

Sunday Crockpot

On the menu this week for us:

The chicken fried steaks came in our Omaha Steak package so I’m hoping they turn out since I’ve never cooked it before.

10K Training Plan: Week 11

Shunga Trail

On the schedule:

Yoga 3 mile run 35 min CT 2 + strength 50 min CT Rest 4 mile run

What actually happened:

Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday
Yoga Rest 2 hrs volleyball 3 mile run Rest Rest 4 mile run

I skipped one of the runs (95 degrees still at 6pm?  No thank you!) , but overall a good week.

I was a sub for one of my Kansas coworker’s team and they had a double header on Tuesday night!  It was fun to get out on the court again.

I definitely didn’t want to get out of bed and do the run on Saturday, but I’m glad Zac pushed me out of bed to go.  This week’s 4 miler was much better than last week’s.  The weather was AWESOME!
